You Can’t Develop What You Haven’t Diagnosed

You wouldn’t operate without a diagnosis. So why develop your leadership without one?

No cardiothoracic surgeon would crack the chest to repair a dissection without a confirmatory scan first.

But often, whatever leadership development we physicians get is general. It’s like operating without a diagnosis.

I’ve sat through the seminars. I’ve read a ton of the books. I took several leadership assessments. And some of it was useful.

Here are the problems with this approach:

• For busy physician leaders, time is precious. Generic leadership development, while helpful, isn’t the best use of our time.

• Reflexively, you’ll focus on improving your strengths. However, even significant improvement in these areas may have minimal overall effect on how others experience your leadership.

• The greatest benefit to your leadership often comes from identifying and addressing your “blind spots.” By definition, you don’t know what these are.

When you’re already being beat up as a leader, you don’t have time for generic development. You need to know what will help you breathe again. Now.

That’s the problem with leadership development without “the scan.” It’s very slow, very inefficient, and typically not very cost-effective when trying to develop physician leaders.

And that’s why the Leadership Circle Profile is a staple in all my JZ and Me Physician Leadership Development Packages. You want a physician leadership coach who gives the best leadership assessment tool. More efficient. More effective.

PRECISION DIAGNOSIS.
PRECISION DEVELOPMENT.

Here’s why the Leadership Circle Profile is the scan I trust:

• Used by over 460,000 leaders worldwide over the last 20+ years, including 45% of Fortune 100 companies.

• Recognized as a top leadership evaluation tool for its reliability and validity in measuring leadership effectiveness.

• Unlike other instruments, it measures both leadership strengths AND reactive leadership tendencies that are holding you back (often these are blind spots to you).

Diagnose before you develop. Please reach out to discuss your leadership development options.
