You’ve become an Expert Physician.
Leadership is a different beast.
Nobody taught us that one in medical school.
🕰️ Flashback to my Chief Resident year...
Our board pass rate was bad. Really bad. I knew a big part of the solution was to start a board review class.
I got the diagnosis right. I got the plan right.
But I badly underestimated what it would take to actually lead it.
The rollout was a mess. My leadership skills simply weren’t ready for the job. Decades later, that failure still sticks with me.
That gap took me years to close. For more than twenty-five years, I’ve practiced medicine, and along the way I’ve taken on progressively greater leadership responsibility: Internal Medicine Residency Associate Program Director, leading the EHR conversion to Epic, Board of Trustees (including Finance Team and co-chairing the CEO selection committee), Director of Quality, Chief of Staff, Medical Vice President, and Chief Medical Officer. I learned slowly and painfully that being an excellent physician doesn’t automatically make you an effective leader.
So I built what I wish someone had given me earlier in my career: JZ and Me Physician Development.
It’s for physicians who want to better understand how they lead, develop their leadership intentionally, and become more effective without losing who they are as physicians.
At the center of it is The JZ Way™: Leading with Character and Connection, a diagnostic-driven approach to physician leadership, built the way we were trained to think by an expert physician executive leadership coach.
If you’ve ever thought, “I know how to practice medicine, but how do I lead?” I built JZ and Me for you.
